U-15 Red a tough test for league-leading Lakers
Coming off a weekend split, the Owen Sound Foodland Junior Attack under-15 Red team was facing perhaps its toughest test of the season on Saturday, Feb. 3 against the league-leading Shallow Lake Lakers.

The Attack were sitting in the middle of the Western Ontario Athletic Association local league standings with a record of 6-5-2 following a 9-1 win over the TCDMHA Rebels on Jan. 28 and a 5-3 loss to Owen Sound White the previous day.

The Lakers, meanwhile, had yet to lose a game and had a commanding lead atop the standings with an 11-0-2 record.

And it would be the Lakers who would strike first at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre in Owen Sound, finding the back of the net at 6:32 of the first period.

But the Junior Attack would knot it up in the middle frame, when Lillian Hillyer scored her first goal of the season at the 12:24 mark. Derek Haak and Charlie Nash drew assists on the play.

The score would remain tied until the third, when Cole Cairns scored his sixth of the year at 10:57 to give the Junior Attack the 2-1 lead.

The Lakers would answer back though with a pair of goals at the 8:23 and 4:48 marks of the third period and hold on for the 3-2 win.

Jacob Fry had another strong outing in the Owen Sound goal, making several big saves on the Lakers snipers.

After the strong team effort, the Junior Attack will now look to close out their regular season on a high note with a pair of games this weekend.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, the Red squad faces the TCDMHA Rebels at 12:30 p.m. in Owen Sound at the rec centre, before travelling to Shallow Lake for a rematch against the Lakers on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m.
