Novice A squad faces stiff competition in Guelph PowerPlay Tournament
The Owen Sound Quick Lube Novice Jr. Attack team traveled to Guelph this past weekend to compete in the Guelph Jr. Storm PowerPlay Tournament.

Early morning road legs resulted in a slow start finding the Attack down 5-0 in the first period of their first game Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
After their wake-up call, the boys and girls managed to win the second period scoring the lone goal, but still trailing by four going into the final frame. They battled hard and ended up losing 6-1 vs. the Woolwich Wildcats. The lone goal for Owen Sound was a beautiful "heart & hustle" solo effort by Ronan Helder on a pass from Cooper Schneider.

Next up was the Whitby Wildcats for a 1pm afternoon game that saw the Attack continue where the left off from their previous effort and only down 1-0 after the first period, they poured it on in the second scoring three and taking a one goal lead into the third. The Jr. Attack had some solid goal-tending and used their speed to get pucks to the net and bang home rebounds, finding the mesh two more times en route to a well earned 5-2 victory.

Scoring Summary : Markus Grajnar-Ptok from Cameryn Moore
Kashias Keeshig from Ptok, Moore
Cameryn Moore from Keeshig, Gragnar-Ptok
Markus Gragnar-Ptok from Bryce Martin, Ronan Helder
Chase Mertineit from Cody Cox, Cooper Schnieder

That was it for Friday going 1-1, and they need to finish in the top 4 teams to move on to Sunday.

Saturday morning put Owen Sound up against their toughest competition of the season versus the St. Thomas Stars. The Quick Lube Jr. Attack could not find their groove and struggled with getting pucks to the net. The eventual result was a 7-0 loss to start the day.

Moving ahead to the 1 pm Saturday game versus the host team, Guelph, it was a must win to advance. The Jr. Attack battled hard in the first and were only down a goal moving into the second. Guelph poured on a relentless attack and started to click as they made some nice passing plays that in turn generated some quality scoring changes. The puck was not bouncing our way and the eventual final score was 6-1 in favour of Guelph. Ronan Helder was again the lone goal scorer.

Four good battles versus four new opponents should help the team improve moving forward.

However, it will not get any easier this weekend as they face off against the top two teams in the Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League Novice A loop.

Saturday at 2:30pm they host the first place Midland Centennials at the Bayshore.

Sunday they travel to Elmvale for a 4:45pm road game versus the second place Wolves.

Go Get 'Em Attack !!!
