Novice AEs win B championship
The Owen Sound QuikLube Junior Attack novice AEs downed the Township of Chatsworth Rebels 6-2 to win the B final of the Arthur Novice Rep Tournament on Saturday.

Owen Sound opened the scoring in the B final when Cole Gowan took a feed from Eric Barnard and broke in alone on the Chatsworth goalie and fired it home at the 8:38 mark.
Chatsworth tied the game at the 6:14 mark of the first, but Cole Gowan made the score 2-0 less than a minute later when he netted a rebound off a shot by Curtis Arnold.
Cole Gowan completed the hat trick at the 6:37 mark of the second period when he scored off his own rebound to make the score 3-1. Hunter McMillan had an assist on the goal.
Jacob Duncan put Owen Sound up 4-1 with just under a minute remaining in the second when the defenceman jumped into the rush and scored a breakaway goal.
Sam Barrett added another one for Owen Sound at the 8:17 mark of the third when he scored on a feed from Noah Hemstock. Devon Long picked up the second assist on the goal.
Long scored Owen Sound's final goal of the game 11 second later, going hard to the net and banging home the puck. Sam Barrett and Noah Hemstock earned the assists on the goal.
the Rebels got one back at the 3:07 mark of the third, but Owen Sound's defence shut it down for the rest of the game, stopping any rush the Rebels tried to muster. When a Chatsworth player did get through, Landon Sanford was there between the pipes to make the save.
The squad played a strong team game, gaining confidence and improving as the tournament went on. Tyson Downs and Owen Sound's other defenders came up big on defence on several occasions, getting back and stopping the Chatsworth forwards as they tried to enter the zone. Tyson Morrison and Jayden Todd and the rest of Owen Sound's forwards played a strong game, pressuring the Rebels defence and creating scoring chances.
Owen Sound made it to the B final by downing Arthur 5-4 in the semifinals.
Arthur opened the scoring early in the first period, but Owen Sound got it back when Eric Barnard scored on a nice tic-tac-toe play from Curtis Arnold and Cole Gowan.
Cole Gowan gave Owen Sound the lead early in the second when he took a feed from Hunter McMillan and scored on the Arthur goalie.
Noah Hemstock gave Owen Sound a 3-1 lead with 1:17 left in the second and the score stayed that way until late in the third, with Landon Sanford coming up big in the Owen Sound goal several times.
Arthur came on , scoring three goals in less than 4 minutes to take the lead 4-3 with just under two minutes to play.
But Owen Sound found a way to steal the momentum back when Noah Hemstock broke in on goal to knot the game 4-4 with 28 seconds left on the clock.
But Owen Sound was not satisfied with the tie and a mere 10 seconds later Owen Sound scored the game winner on a goal-mouth scramble. Landen Humphries was awarded the goal with Noah Hemstock and Eric Barnard picking up the assists.
Owen Sound opened the tournament against Creemore, and it took the boys a bit of time to shake off the rust, and although they fell 9-1, they started to come on late in the game. Curtis Arnold scored the Owen Sound goal with Eric Barnard and Calder Adams earning the assists. Landon Sanford again played strong in the Owen Sound goal.
The Junior Attack novice AEs are now off until Saturday, Dec. 17 when they take on Coldwater at 1:10 p.m. at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Owen Sound is back in action at the Lumley-Bayshore on Sunday, Dec. 18 when Flesherton travels to Owen Sound for an 11:30 a.m. game.
