The Owen Sound Garb & Gear PeeWee Minor Jr. Attack placed
second at the Regional Silver Stick Qualifier Tournament in Owen Sound this
weekend. The team fell to a 3 – 2 loss
in OT against the Woolwich Wildcats in the final on Sunday.
The team opened the tournament on Friday with a 3 – 2 win over the Barrie Jr. Colts. Hunter Stewart, Nolan Edmonstone and Seth Stewart would score with S. Stewart, Duff McGrogan, Bennett Carr and Will McMillan picking up the assists. The team would then loose 4 – 1 to the New Hamburg Huskies in game 2 with H. Stewart getting the goal assisted by Edmonstone.
The team would not play again until late Saturday afternoon winning against the Woolwich Wildcats 2 – 0. Morgan Armstrong and S. Stewart would get the goals while Carr and H. Stewart picked up the assists. A much needed win of 6 – 1 in game 4 on Sunday against the Centre Wellington Fusion assured the team to move on to the finals. Aiden Stanley, Ethan Williams and S. Stewart all scored twice with Nate Garrett, Stanley, H. Stewart and Keltan Berner getting the assists.
In the final game on Sunday both Woolwich and Owen Sound gave it their all throughout the game. S. Stewart would put Owen Sound on the board first in period one. McGrogan would give Owen Sound a 2 – 0 lead with Garrett assisting in period two. However Woolwich would score quickly after to put them on the board. Woolwich would score again in the 3rd period. Both teams gave it their all with great saves by both goal tenders. Woolwich would score in OT just under the 5 minute mark to win the game.
Congratulations to the team and coaches on a job well done at all three tournaments. This team made it to the finals in each one. Keep those heads held high and be very proud of the accomplishment that you have made thus far. Now onto the focus of being number 1 in our division for Tri-County Hockey League (Smith)!!!
