Gaviller & Company Bantams Start OMHA's 3-0
It was an awesome weekend for the Gaviller and Company 'Jr' Attack Bantams, as they played 3 games, in 3 nights and had 3 solid wins. They outscored their opponents 10-3 and sit 3-0 after the 1st weekend of OMHA action. Whoooahhhhhh!!!!

Game 1 Friday night saw the Jr. Attack take on the 2nd place Hespeler Shamrocks. Hespeler held a slight advantage as they went 2-1 during the regular season, however the regular season is over and the playoff season is on.
Owen Sound played an aggressive game right from the drop of the puck and played a solid 2 way game. Owen Sound had an aggressive forecheck throughout the game. Backed by some solid goaltending from Jack Armstrong the Jr. Attack came out on top with a solid 2-1 victory and Armstrong picked up a well deserved win. Scoring for Owen Sound were Kurt Long assisted by Noah Rouse and Andrew Lavergne, and Quinton Maddock assisted by Noah Rouse and Kurt Long.

Game 2 Saturday was played in New Hamburg against a hungry Huskie squad. Like the night before the Jr. Attack were aggressive right off the 1st faceoff and scored early and scored often. Before the Huskies new what hit them, it was 4-0 after the 1st period. The Huskies made a goalie change, and the Owen Sounders didn't let up. Owen Sound didn't score in the 2nd, but if not for the Huskie goalie and the cross bar and goal post it could have been 8-0 after 2, however it remained 4-0. Owen Sound got 1 more in the 3rd period to cap the 5-0 win. Reese Pettigrew was not as busy as some nights but stopped everything New Hamburg shot at him and posted the shutout and the win. Scoring for Owen Sound were Andrew Vardy unassisted, Larsen Lorenz assisted by Matthew Struthers and Noah Rouse, Nathaniel Dodd assisted by Noah Rouse, Matthew Struthers assisted by Nathaniel Dodd and Noah Rouse, and Brady Brown assisted by Matt Lyall.

Game 3 Sunday at home saw the Gaviller crew take on New Hamburg again. It was not so easy for the Accounting crew today, as New Hamburg came out physical, hungry, and wanted to win. Owen Sound started off somewhat slow, as this was their 3rd game in 3 days, however they didn't quit and eventually found their legs and the back of net. The game went back and forth. Owen Sound opened the scoring, the Huskies tied it up. Owen Sound scored with less than 6 minutes left and thought that was it, but the Huskies didn't quit. With 45 seconds left in the game, and the goalie out of the net, the Huskies crashed the net and after Owen Sound netminder Armstrong made 2 big saves, the Huskies batted in a rebound to tie it up. Overtime loomed and the Huskies had the momentum heading into OT. The Owen Sound crew didn't quit although the legs were burning and they were tired, they were able to find what they needed to control the play throughout the overtime period. They had many chances but the Huskie goalie kept the black disc from entering the goal. With 37 seconds left in the OT period, Matt Lyall won the draw, and Brady Brown made a great pass back to D-Man Andrew Lavergne who seized the opportunity to move in and let a boomer fly. Everyone was holding their breath, as the shot flew and hit the far goal post, and ended up crossing the red line for an Owen Sound win. The crowd went wild, the boys left the bench and the celebration started. Owen Sound wins a tight game in OT 3-2. Again Big Jack Armstrong was solid between the grid iron and made several great saves on the day to preserve the win. Scoring for Owen Sound was Tanner Prior from Matt Lyall, Nathaniel Dood from Noah Rouse, and the OT winner by Andrew Lavergne from Brady Brown and Matt Lyall.

What an awesome weekend of hockey boys. You all played exceptional and what Coach Millman, Saunders and Livingstone have been teaching you all is certainly paying off... 3 down and 3 to go in round robin play to move on. Although we had a very solid weekend we have to ensure that we don't lose sight that we still have work to do to move out of this round of OMHA's. But from this writers viewpoint, if you continue the same type of play and work ethic you all displayed this past weekend, moving on can and will be achieved. Get some well deserved rest boys and get ready for 2 big games this coming weekend

Petti Out......
