Major Bantams have Championship Weekend
The Gaviller & Company Bantams went 3-0-1 this past weekend while competing at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Christmas Classic Tournament and captured the Championship.

The Owen Sound Jr. Attack Gaviller and Company Major Bantams won it all this past weekend during the Christmas Classic Tournament in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Game 1 saw Owen Sound Accounting crew take on the Ennismore Eagles, a strong offensive team from the Peterborough area. Owen Sound knew nothing about this team, accept for their impressive 14-1-1 season record to date, scoring 110 goals while only giving up 14 during those 16 games. Owen Sound knew they would have to defend their own zone well and also find a way to put the puck in the net to beat this team. Owen Sound trailed twice during the game, however it was a solid effort from all, and the boys scored late in the 2nd to tie it up, and then again early in the 3rd to tie it up once more and held on the rest of the way to preserve the tie and 1 point early in Round Robin play. Scoring for Owen Sound were Andrew Lavergne and Matthew Lyall. Assist(s) went to Quinton Maddock. Jack Armstrong preserved the tie between the pipes.
Game 2 Saturday saw Owen Sound battle the host Niagara-on-the-Lake Wolves. It was a close tilt throughout, but the Jr. Attack pulled it out with a 2-1 win. Scoring for Owen Sound were Tanner Prior and Quinton Maddock. Assist(s) went to Brady Brown, Nathanial Dodd and Kurt Long. Reese Pettigrew posted the win between the grid iron for Owen Sound.
Game 3 saw Owen Sound take on a Tough Tri County opponent in the Dundas Blues. Dundas came out hungry and the Jr. Attack suddenly found themselves behind 2-0, after 1 period of play and wondered what hit them. Owen Sound needed at least a tie to move on, but it wasn't looking good. Half way through the 2nd Owen Sound finally got on the score sheet on a beauty from Josh Batterman. After 2 it was 2-1 Dundas. Coach Millman pulled the boys aside after the 2nd and simply said, ok boys you have played 2 periods of sub par hockey and your only down 1. Now lets all pick it up in the 3rd and play the type of game we all know your capable of playing and bring home the win and we will be playing on Sunday. Well that is exactly what they did. Inspired by the 2nd period chat from Coach Millman, the boys went out, played a strong 3rd period, scored 2 and as Coach Millman asked of them, they brought home a 3-2 win and a trip to the Championship Final on Sunday. Goal scorers for Owen Sound were Josh Batterman, Larsen Lorenz and Quinton Maddock. Jack Armstrong got the win in net.
Game 4 - Championship Game - Owen Sound once again was up against a strong Ennismore Eagle team and played one of its best tilts of the season on their way to a 5-1 victory. They took control of the game right from the 1st face-off and didn't look back. The boys passed the puck well, took the shot when needed, crashed the net, used the points all game, and overall just played the way we all know they can and are capable of playing. Scoring for Owen Sound were Matthew Struthers (2), Noah Rouse, Jordan Lawrence and Tanner Prior. Assists went to Tayan MacMillan, Andrew Lavergne, and Andrew Vardy. Reese Pettigrew was the Tender and got the win.
If this team is able to play the way they did today, they could have a lot of hockey left to play during the Playoffs. They need to stay focused, and play a complete game as they did today and they will put a lot of wins on Record. I am sure Coach Millman, Saunders and Livingstone, and Trainer Brown would agree with me, that it was a pleasure to watch this team complete today and we all know this is a good team and when they play the way they did today, not many teams will be able to beat them.
I am sure Ennismore left the rink disappointed, but in my mind they should have also left the rink saying that is a good hockey club and will remember the Owen Sound Gaviller & Company Jr. Attack Bantams.....
Also a big thank you to all of the parents and family members that attended this weekend and continue to support the boys. Your continued support is greatly appreciated by the Players and Bench Staff without question. Thank You....
Finally to the Players and Coaching Staff. A job well done this weekend and a Big Congratulations on winning the Championship Final. You should all be very proud of your efforts and results.
Lets finish strong this coming weekend with our final 2 League games and then keep the Attack going into the playoffs and show the Tri County League that we are the team, every other team doesn't want to play.....

Petti.
