The Owen Sound Jr. Attack
Tykes extended their unbeaten streak to six games by skating to a 3-3 tie with
the Collingwood Blackhawks on Sunday at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation
Centre.
Markus Granjar-Ptok, Brett Warrilow and Kashias Keeshig each found the back of the net once while Bryce Martin contributed the lone Owen Sound assist.
Netminder Myles Playter put forth a valiant performance in goal despite not seeing any game action in nearly two weeks.
The Jr. Attack Tykes, who have not suffered a loss in over a month, are now 5-0-1 in their last six games.
Granjar-Ptok opened the scoring for Owen Sound midway through the first period when, finding himself in alone, he made no mistake by picking the corner.
Warrilow provided the Tykes with a 2-0 lead when he rifled a wrist shot high glove on a breakaway with only 35 ticks remaining in the first period.
However, sloppy play by Owen Sound deep in their own end proved costly in the second frame when the Blackhawks took advantage by potting a pair of goals in a span of 36 seconds to make it a 2-2 game.
“I thought we were lucky to get a tie considering the way we played,” said Jr. Attack head coach Rob Martin, “but the defence did a good job of keeping the puck in their end and also getting the puck to the forwards in our end.”
Collingwood would pull ahead with just over nine minutes to play in the third period to jeopardize Owen Sound’s unbeaten streak. However, Keeshig ensured it remained intact when the winger’s low backhand shot from the high slot eluded a screened Blackhawks goaltender with 7:46 remaining.
The Jr. Attack Tykes (5-3-2) next hit the road on Friday for a tilt with the Creemore Valley Hawks (6-4). Game time is 7 p.m.
