Tykes win Novice C Consolation Championships
The Owen Sound Jr. Attack Canadian Tire Tykes defeated the Coldwater Wildcats in Game 5 of the Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League Novice C Consolation championships. The Tykes take the series 6 points to 4, with a record of 2-1-2. This ended what was an extremely close series with the last 3 games going to overtime.

After having to make another long drive to Coldwater on the Saturday of Easter weekend, the team was determined to come away with the victory and end the series in Coldwater. A loud and boisterous contingent of Owen Sound fans made the team feel right at home as they took a 1-0 lead in the first period. Ronan Helder continuted his strong play in the playoffs to get the Jr. Attack rolling with assists to Kashias Keeshig and Cody Cox. The Wildcats responded before the end of the first period with a shot through a maze of sticks and skates that eluded goaltender Noah Lundgren to knot the score at 1.

The Tykes went ahead again in the second with a goal from Keeshig, assisted by Cox and Bryce Martin. Thirty seconds later, Coldwater scored once again to continue the trend of close games in this series. The game stayed tied through regulation with both teams getting excellent scoring chances only to be denied by Lundgren for the Tykes and Coldwater goalie Sidney Storer.

So off we went to overtime for the third game in a row. The best scoring chance in the first few minutes fell to Jordyn Laughlin of Coldwater who was all alone in front of the Owen Sound net, only to be stoned by an excellent save by Lundgren. As fate would have it, the winning goal was scored with less than a minute to play in the first overtime. Kashias Keeshig wore the hero's cape on this day, assisted by Brett Warrilow and Markus Grajnar Ptok. The goal sparked a massive pileup of happy players forming a mound on top of Lundgren.

Full credit goes to the players who have put in a massive amount of work since the first skate on September 4. Thanks and congratulations to team staff, Coach Rob Martin, Coach Bern Ptok, Coach Cam Duggan, Trainer Jason Playter and Team Manager Stacey Goldie. Also thanks to Tim "Hubcap" Cox for helping with practice.
