Under-15 red skates to tie with Ice Dogs
After a prolonged holiday break, the Owen Sound Foodland Junior Attack under-15 red team returned to game action on Saturday, Jan. 20.

They looked to build on the 4-2 win over the Junior Attack under-15 gold squad they earned on Dec. 23, with a matchup against the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs B team at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre.

The last time these two teams met in Chesley on Dec. 3, it was a close game with the Junior Attack taking a hard-fought 3-2 win.

On Saturday it would be more of the same as the two teams remained scoreless through the first period. Jacob Fry got the nod in the Owen Sound goal for this one and made several key saves early on.

The Junior Attack would get on the board first, when William Hillyer took a shot from the point that bounced off an Ice Dogs defender right to Derek Haak, who gave his team the 1-0 lead.

The rest of the second saw both teams get numerous chances to score, but the goalies in both nets were equal to the task and Owen Sound carried the 1-0 lead into the final period.

After goals were hard to come by in the first two period, it would be much different in the third.

Owen Sound would again strike early in the period, when Isaac Flood-Brown walked into the zone and fired the puck high blocker to give Owen Sound the 2-0 lead. Jaxon Thorpe and Curtis Cressman earned assists on the play.

Five minutes later it was the Ice Dogs responding when they scored two quick goals just 21 second apart to knot the game at 2-2.

Haak answered back for Owen Sound less than a minute later when he blew a slap shot into the back of the Arran-Elderslie goal, restoring the lead for the Junior Attack. William Hillyer earned his second assist of the game on the goal.

The game was again tied up by the Ice Dogs with just six minutes remaining on the clock.

But with just 2:28 to play, Haak roofed the puck after taking a feed from Lillian Hillyer, giving Owen Sound the 4-3 lead.

Just like their earlier meeting, this one would come down to the wire. With just 30 seconds left and their goalie pulled, the Ice Dogs tied the game and both teams came away with a point in what was a very exciting game.

The Junior Attack Red team now plays a couple at the rec centre on the weekend – Saturday, Jan. 27 at 12:30 p.m. against Owen Sound White and Sunday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. against the TCDMHA Rebels.

Connect Rehabilitation|Yoga|Fitness
CONNECT opened in May 2019 out of a need for MORE. More 1-on-1 time with our patients, more time learning about you and your goals, and more focus on doing the things that we know will help you in the long term. That meant creating a space that provided more than just the highest quality physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy services. It meant we needed a space where we could empower people to take active control of their health, and provide them with the specialized group fitness, yoga, and cycle classes that they needed to accomplish that. CONNECT is an enigma in both the healthcare world and the fitness world. We don't fit nicely into either box, but we know that the way that we bring the two together is going to help change the way we think about and manage our own health.
