Fueling Success: The Three Pillars Propel U11 to an Explosive Season Start
The U11 Owen Sound Jr. Attack team are off to a fantastic start, this 2023/2024 hockey season. In fifteen games played, the team went undefeated for fourteen of them, tying their fifteenth game against Centre Wellington Fusion. The team’s threefold motto of the pillars of Hardwork, Teamwork and Respect have been evident through various players, staff and family members going above and beyond for the team.

These are some of the aspects of a great team and are the components that help to hold a team together. The players and coaching staff have consistently given 110% to each practice, displaying the component of Hardwork, which has resulted in the current 14-0-1 season record. The coaching staff have tried players on different lines, to encourage team members to play as a team, as opposed to playing as individuals. This Teamwork approach has produced more team fluidity and cohesion. There has also been regular evidence of team Respect through kindness, support and listening between team members and respect directed from players to staff.

Many family members and staff have gone above and beyond for the U11 Owen Sound Jr. Attack this season. Steph Sollazzo, physiotherapist, has facilitated various dryland training opportunities for the team, through Connect Rehabilitation in Owen Sound. The coaching staff have organized some fun, local bike rides and area baseball games for players and have donated their time to each and every practice, game and tournament. Family member Ella Twigger has donated her time and tech expertise to the creation of a team social media platform, which has produced some fun and informative videos and team photos for all to enjoy. Family member Kevin Smith has gone above and beyond for the team, in advance of each and every game; he has organized all team equipment and has had it all ready to go before each game. On top of this, he has regularly donated his time and funds to a team raffle prize, team sticks prep and team sports drinks. The team has already made some fantastic fundraising efforts, thanks to the organizing of Tim and Melissa Clancy, Jessica Smith and Brittney McCutcheon. Congratulations to our recent raffle draw prize winners, Megan Hopper, Cathy Baker and Kelly Oliver. The team coaches have each donated a significant amount of their time to all team practices, games, tournaments, events and extras such as dryland training and charity efforts, all of which have been appreciated by the team and by the community. Lindsey Harris, team manager, has been second to none and has kept the team on track since

spring tryouts and summer dryland training. Lindsey has gone above and beyond all season and has organized all team components including team finances, tournament participation and team communication.

The U11 Owen Sound Jr. Attack gained cohesion through participating in various team activities. The team assisted with the Hockey Fights Cancer Owen Sound Attack game on October 28th, 2023; the players helped to collect pucks on the ice from the Chuck a Puck event and collected donation money from fans in the stands. The U11 Owen Sound Jr. Attack rep team are certainly looking forward to the remainder of their 2023/2024 season!
