The Locking Business Furnishing U10 coaching team initiated
the year with a focus on establishing a strong foundation from the defensive
zone. Their teaching efforts were evident as the buzzer sounded Sunday afternoon in
Orangeville after securing the teams 3rd consecutive shutout, bringing
their regular season record to 3-1-1.
On Saturday, the U10 Jr
Attack welcomed Brampton to the Julie MacArthur for a re-match of the previous
weekend. Owen Sound was great in their defensive end, outshooting the Brampton
45’s 18-9 and sailing away with a 3-0 victory. Jeffrey McManaman opened the
scoring for the Jr. Attack and added another before Lance Fisher got into the
action with a goal of his own to cap off the victory. Haidyn Bumstead picked up
his first shutout of the season, way to go Haidyn! Bentley Peachey was named
Attacker of the game for his work on defense, getting pucks out of the zone
consistently and being hard on loose pucks.
Sunday the team traveled to
Orangeville to visit the Flyer’s at the home of the Northmen Lacrosse - a great
rink with a ton of Lacrosse memorabilia and history to check out. The team
continued their defensive focused play, only allowing 7 shots on goal. All that
time in the offensive zone made it easy to keep the shots low as the team would
tally 10 on route to their 3rd consecutive shutout. Leading scorers
of the day were: Alex Gibson (4), Evan O’Leary (2), & Griffin Ward (2). There
were no shortage of candidates for Attacker of the game as Brock Aljoe and
Blake Barfoot were credited with 4 assists each, supporting the offense;
ultimately, Weston Campbell was selected as Attacker of the game for going hard
on the forecheck and supporting on loose pucks.
The U10 Attacker of the game
is awarded to the player that plays hard, shows improvement on their specific
game needs and shows a positive attitude!
The U10 team will happily
stay close to home next weekend and compete in the Silver Stick Qualifier being
hosted by Owen Sound Minor Hockey.
Go Attack Go!
