The
Owen Sound Foodland Junior Attack under-15 Red team travelled to Chesley for a
Sunday night tilt against the Arran-Elderslie IceDogs B squad in Western
Ontario Athletic Association local league play.
It had been two weeks since the Junior Attack last saw game
action, but that didn’t stop them from getting on the board first.
Derek Haak put the visitors up just over four minutes into
the game when he took a pass, cut into the middle of the ice and roofed it over
the IceDogs netminder. Curtis Cressman and Cole Cairns drew assists on the
play.
For the rest of the period, it was the goaltender’s chance
to shine, with Mikayla Wingrove keeping her team in the lead with several
stellar saves.
But early in the second period, the IceDogs would strike,
with a hard shot into the top corner of the net tying the game 1-1.
The IceDogs continued to pressure the Junior Attack and took
the lead before the second was over with an odd-man rush resulting in the
go-ahead goal.
After the flood between periods, the Junior Attack came out
flying and put some pressure on the IceDogs in the third. Then, on a power play,
Haak took a nice feed in the slot and made no mistake in scoring his second of
the game to knot it at 2-2. Cressman and William Hillyer had the assists.
The Junior Attack didn’t stop there though, and it would be
Haak again. With just over five minutes
left in the third period, he sniped his third of the game home off the faceoff
to give his team the lead.
The Junior Attack Red team held down the fort the rest of
the way to earn the hard-fought 3-2 win, and improve their record on the season
to four wins, three losses and one tie.
The Junior Attack Red now travels to Tiverton on Saturday,
Dec. 9 to take on the Kincardine Kinucks Royal Lepage team at 4:45 p.m.
