Major atoms fall in 2OT
The Owen Sound Leeder and Associates Junior Attack major atoms came up just short of the win on the weekend.
Owen Sound fell 3-2 in double overtime to the Uxbridge Stars in the final of the Bob Merkley Memorial Silver Stick Tournament in Midland on Sunday.
Curtis Arnold and Carter Moran scored for Owen Sound.
The Junior Attack advanced to the finals with a 4-2 semifinal win over the Whitby Wildcats. Owen Prior, Elliot Thomson, Eric Barnard and Cole Gowan scored in the win.
On Saturday in round-robin play, Owen Sound defeated the Huntsville Otters 2-1. Cole Gowan and Carter Moran scored for Owen Sound.
Owen Sound also defeated the Midland Centennials 6-0 on Friday with Noah Hemstock earning the shutout. Carter Moran scored two, while Cole Gowan, Curtis Arnold, Landen Humphries and Sam Barrett added singles.
Owen Sound opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Uxbridge. Cole Gowan had the lone Owen Sound goal.
