WELCOME TO OWEN SOUND MINOR HOCKEY GROUP’S
1ST
ANNUAL
BARB DOWNEY
LOCAL LEAGUE TOURNAMENT.
Owen Sound Minor Hockey would like to provide a brief background on a few of the contributions Barb Downey accomplished while volunteering in a variety of organizations that focused on sporting activities for so many children.
Some of the organizations Barb volunteered include Big Sisters, Owen Sound Minor Softball, Special Olympics, Owen Sound Figure Skating Club and Knox United Church. Even with all these commitments, Barb always found time to be very active with OWEN SOUND MINOR HOCKEY.
Barb started as a volunteer before becoming an Executive member in 1987 until 2016. During this time, Barb held the positions of President, Secretary, Ice Scheduler, 2nd Vice President responsible for House League hockey and Past President. She also served as a committee member for Friends of Minor Hockey and the OSMHG Ladies Auxiliary. During this extensive period, Barb always found time to attend countless minor hockey games and was always there at year end to hand out awards to the participants.
As a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Barb introduced the yearly contest of the children designing an annual OSMHG crest, several of which are on display in our office.
One of the most memorable events was in 2010, when the OMHA honored Barb as the recipient of the prestigious Patricia Hartley Award “given in recognition of exemplary service in the field of sports administration”.
Barb’s love for children and the sports they played will always be remembered.
