Welcome to Owen Sound Minor Hockey, where our goal is to provide a fun, inclusive, and development-focused hockey experience for players of all skill levels. Our focus is on recreational hockey, offering opportunities for skill development, community connection, and a lifelong love of the game.

At Owen Sound Minor Hockey, we are passionate about creating a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment where players can excel both on and off the ice. Our programs are designed to foster skill development, personal growth, and a lifelong love of the game—empowering players to pursue their hockey dreams at any level they aspire to. We proudly offer high-quality recreational hockey opportunities across the following streams:

Recreational Stream Programs
Junior Development (U5–U8)

U5 Preschool Program (Timbits):

Start your child's hockey journey with fun, fundamentals, and friendship in our U5 Preschool Program—where young players take their first strides on the ice in a safe and engaging environment!

  • Introduces young players to hockey FUNdamentals in a positive, engaging environment.
  • Ice Time: October to March (1 x 50-minute session per week).
  • Roster Size: Max 36 players.
  • Equipment: Full equipment required; jerseys and socks provided.

U6–U8 Initiation Program (Timbits):

Build the foundation for a lifetime of hockey enjoyment in our U6–U8 Initiation Program (Timbits), where young players develop essential skills and teamwork in a fun and supportive atmosphere

  • Focus on building individual skills, including skating, puck control, shooting, passing, and basic positioning.
  • Ice Time: October to March (2 x 50-minute sessions per week).
  • Roster Size: Max 36 players (U8 divided into two teams of up to 18 players each).
  • Equipment: Full equipment required; jerseys and socks provided.
Learn-to-Play/Modified Programming (U9 and Above)

Our Learn-to-Play/Modified Programming offers a tailored hockey experience for players new to the game or those with special needs, focusing on skill-building, confidence, and enjoyment in a welcoming environment.

  • Designed for families new to hockey or players with special needs who benefit from a tailored experience.
  • Ice Time: October to March (1 x 50-minute session per week).
  • Roster Size: Max 20 players.
  • Small-area skills and drills tailored to age and ability.
  • Equipment: Full equipment required; jerseys and socks provided.
Local League (U9–U18)

U9 Program:

Our U9 Program introduces young players to structured hockey through engaging half-ice games and skill development sessions, fostering teamwork, confidence, and a strong foundation for future growth. In January, players transition to full-ice play to prepare them for higher levels of competition.

  • Ice Time: October to March (2 x 50-minute sessions per week).
  • Format: Half-ice exhibition league from October to December, transitioning to a full-ice league in January.

U11–U18 Program:

Our U11–U18 Program is designed to foster continued development, teamwork, and a love for the game as players advance in their hockey journey within a safe and supportive setting.

  • Ice Time: October to March (1–2 x 50-minute sessions per week).
  • Participation in WOAA league with local travel for regular season and playoff games.  (Saugeen Shores, Shallow Lake, Chatsworth, Bruce Peninsula, etc)
  • Note: No body contact permitted.
Changes to Competitive Programming

As of the 2025-26 season, Owen Sound Minor Hockey no longer offers Representative (Rep) "A" hockey programming. Competitive opportunities for players are now served through our partnered zone; Tri-Centre Jr. Attack Minor Hockey. Visit their website for details on tryouts, schedules, and programs.

Player Development Opportunities
  • Our Cub Academy Program offers specialized clinics in power skating, shooting, passing, and stickhandling to help players sharpen their skills and build confidence on the ice.
  • Dedicated goalie training sessions are provided through our Keepers Crease initiative, designed to develop essential skills and boost confidence in net.
