Welcome to the 2025-26 Owen Sound Minor Hockey Season!
Owen Sound Minor Hockey is thrilled to welcome all of our players and families to the 2025-26 season! We are excited to confirm that everyone receiving this message is registered for Local League hockey this year, and we can’t wait to get underway.

Preparing for the Season

We know many families are eager to hear what this season will look like, and we share in that excitement. Behind the scenes, our volunteers are working hard to finalize details such as games, matchups, and schedules. Bench staff are being assembled for each of our Local League teams, and there are many wheels in motion to put forward the best program possible.

A New Direction: Tiered Local League Hockey

This season brings an exciting new direction as we follow the WOAA initiative to tier teams. There are many moving pieces within the league, and we are working hard to align everything as new directives come in.

What remains constant is our focus: creating the best possible opportunity for every player to grow, build confidence, and enjoy the game—no matter their skill level. Tiered Local League hockey is designed to provide a positive, supportive, and developmentally appropriate experience where every player can thrive.

The Advantages of Tiering

  • Improved player development — Players are grouped with others of similar ability so coaches can tailor practices that build skills and confidence.
  • Balanced, competitive games — Tiering helps create evenly matched teams, keeping games engaging and fun for all participants.
  • Enhanced enjoyment and retention — Players are more likely to have a positive experience and stay motivated to keep playing.
  • Reduced pressure — Every registered player is placed on a team, allowing the focus to remain on development, sportsmanship, and enjoyment.
