Booy’s Action Auto Minor Atoms Have a Winning Weekend
The Owen Sound Junior Attack Booy’s Action Auto Minor Atoms are having a great season so far sitting at 7 wins and 2 losses in league play.  It was time however to take a break from the Georgian Bay League and for the team to head to Orillia for the “Jim Wilson Chevrolet Winter Classic” tournament from November 10-12.

It is always interesting to step out of league play for this team and to get a chance to play against other “A” teams.  The Jr. Attack started the tournament playing against the host Orillia Terriers and skated to a solid 5-1 victory.  It was a great way to start the weekend.

An early curfew was necessary Friday night as the Hillcrest Canadians were next up at 8am on Saturday. The Booy’s Action Auto Jr. Attack came out flying and stormed to a 12-4 victory over the Canadians.  The combined goal differential proved important and put Owen Sound into 1st place after the preliminary games, barely ahead of Grimsby who were also undefeated.  1st place meant a bye to the semifinals and that game was not until 8am on Sunday.  With a whole day to kill the hotel pool got a good workout and of course some shopping was done in Barrie (and just down the road in Vaughan).  Glow in the dark mini golf proved to be a good time as well.  So early to be bed again Saturday for the players and coaches in order to be ready for a rematch with Orillia in the semis.

This time Orillia was ready.  The Terriers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period and seemed to be carrying the play.  That would not last long.  Owen Sound managed a power play goal to tie it up and then never looked back.  The Jr. Attack earned their way to a 3-1 victory and a trip to the finals where they would meet a strong team from Grimsby.

Grimsby was another undefeated team at this tournament so it was sure to be a great matchup.  Once again the Jr. Attack thought it would be a good idea to let the opponent score first and Grimsby did just that.  Again, just like the semifinal it was a power play goal that Owen Sound needed to tie it up and to get them going.  In this tournament once the players from Owen Sound decided it was time to play there was no stopping them. In the final game after being down 1-0 the Attack fought back and won 5-1.

Every player contributed throughout the weekend and both goalies stopped a lot of shots.  It was a well-earned championship for sure!  Congratulations to the team.  Let’s see if this momentum can be carried into their next league game which is Friday November 17th at 7pm at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre against the Dundalk Storm.  Come by and see some great athletes at work!
