2025-26 Tiered Local League Coaching Applications Now Open!

This exciting season brings a significant enhancement to our programming with the implementation of a Tiered Local League system across the WOAA. We’re eager to welcome new applicants and returning coaches to step forward and join this rewarding journey.

Why Should You Apply to Coach?

Coaching is one of the most rewarding roles in hockey. As a coach, you’re not just on the sidelines—you’re at the center of the action with the best seats in the house, close to the camaraderie, jokes, and the unforgettable moments that make youth hockey so special.

Whether you’re a seasoned coach or someone who has considered coaching but hesitated to take the leap, we want you! Our goal is to foster a supportive and welcoming environment for all our coaches. We’re here to help you succeed:

  • Mentorship: Experienced coaches and executive members are ready to guide and support you throughout the season.
  • Resources: From practice plans to targeted drills, we’ll equip you with everything you need to feel confident and prepared.
  • Community: Coaching is a team effort, and you’ll have the backing of a vibrant hockey community committed to your success.

What is the Tiered Local League System?

This season, teams will be tiered based on player skill levels, ranging from Tier 3 (most advanced) to Tier 1 (developing players). Tiering ensures that players are placed in the best environment for their personal growth, skill development, and enjoyment. Whether a player is honing advanced techniques or mastering the fundamentals, they’ll have the opportunity to thrive in a setting tailored to their needs.

Advantages of Tiering for Player Development

  • Personalized Development: Players compete and practice alongside peers of similar skill levels, creating an environment that challenges them appropriately while fostering confidence.
  • Increased Engagement: More puck touches, more opportunities to lead, and a greater chance to shine within their team.
  • Targeted Coaching: With tiering, coaches can focus on drills and strategies best suited to their team’s skill level, maximizing growth and teamwork.
  • Building a Bright Future for Our Players

At Owen Sound Minor Hockey, our goal is to foster fun, safety, growth, and an inclusive environment where every player has the opportunity to achieve their hockey dreams. By joining as a coach, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping young athletes and preparing them for any level of hockey they aspire to reach.

Tiering is about giving players the best environment for their individual growth, where they can enjoy more opportunities to lead, more time with the puck, and more room to develop their skills. It’s about ensuring every player has the chance to grow, excel, and, most importantly, love the game.

    Take the Leap!

If you’ve ever wondered if you have what it takes to coach, the answer is yes! Coaching is an incredibly fulfilling way to give back to the game and help shape the next generation of players. Step forward today, and let us support you in this exciting endeavor.
