The Cub Academy brings together players in the U8–U13 age groups to build foundational hockey skills. The program prepares players for competitive play, recreational leagues, or simply a lifelong love for the game.
Program Focus
Cub Academy is more than just a training program — it’s a pathway for players to reach their full potential. While the program supports representative hockey, it is open to all motivated participants. Participants are expected to be engaged, self-motivated, and seeking additional opportunities for growth. The focus is on skill development, personal growth, and creating a positive, supportive environment.
Key Objectives
- Foundational Skill Development: Focused coaching on skating, puck control, passing, and shooting.
- Preparing for Success: Focused skill development, introduction to individual and team tactics, and building a foundation for higher-level play.
- Building Confidence and Skills: Cub Academy helps each player grow their skills, confidence, and love for the game. By providing extra opportunities in a fun and supportive environment, we help set them up for success on and off the ice.
Program Structure & Schedule
- U8: Focus on technical skills and individual tactics. Morning sessions run every other week until January, then weekly through February.
- U9–U13: Focus on technical & team tactics; sessions weekly, typically mornings, November through February.
- Additional Ice Times: One extra session per age group focused on foundational skill development.
- Eligibility: Open to players U13 and younger.
- Focus Areas: Skating, puck handling, passing, and teamwork.
Registration Information
Registration is optional and available during Owen Sound Minor Hockey registration. Parents and guardians can sign up players for extra opportunities to develop skills and confidence throughout the season.
- U8 Program Fee: $50 per season
- U9–U13 Program Fee: $75 per season
- Register during minor hockey registration or before the program begins.
