Minor Bantams clinch 1st Place in Tri-County in regular season
The Owen Sound Firefighters Minor Bantams clinch 1st place in Tri-county regular season play!

In what has proven to be a character building season this team of athletes has battled together and persevered through a season complete with injuries, losses, ties and of course many edge-of-your-seat wins to end their regular season in first place.
The Minor Bantams started the season at the Mary Parkinson early bird tournament, in Richmond Hill, where they showed an impressive 4 straight wins in round robin play. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the end result they were aiming for and fell short to a strong Barrie Colts team in the semi final game. It certainly proved to be a great start to the 2019-20 hockey season!
Their second tournament of the season was the Silver Stick qualifier here at home. This team had great success last year winning both silver stick qualifier and internationals and were in the running for a repeat. The Firefighter Bantams dominated round robin like they did in the early bird tournament and earned a by to semi final action. A well played game against an old OMHA rival Riverside didn’t go as planned and the teams tournament ended at the semi finals.
The teams third tournament brought them to the Nations Cup in Detroit Michigan playing for Canada. The tournament consisted of 7 teams from Canada in their division facing off against 7 skilled teams from around the U.S. This was an incredible experience for these athletes to represent their country along side fellow Canadian athletes, some of them were rival teams from home. There was great hockey played and more impressively, comradery. The Team wore their Canadian jerseys with pride and conducted themselves as true ambassadors of their country. The Canadian ‘06 gold division brought gold home to Canada. Go Canada Go!
The Minor Bantams regular season opened modestly with a tie game for the home crowd. After the home opener the team highlighted multiple winning streaks, a couple of losses and ties, and upsetting injuries. The commitment made by the team on and off the ice helped them to dominate the tri-county regular season. Our goal scorers, playmakers, grinders, defense and goal tenders worked hard to post an impressive 22 wins, 3 ties and 3 losses closing the season untouchable in first place with 47 points. An amazing accomplishment for this group of athletes! The boys are now off on a well deserved holiday break and will start playoff action in the New Year.
The Team would like to thank everyone of their fans who come to their games and cheer them on, there truly is strength in numbers. The Owen Sound Minor Bantams wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!
