Welcome from the coaches
Hello,

On behalf of the coaching and training staff I would like to welcome you to the 2016/2017 season. I would first like to thank Tracie Strathy for her efforts in organizing the season schedule for our team. Dale Funston and I will be coaching the team this year, we are also lucky to have trainers Mike and Chad assisting during practices.

This year there will be a greater focus on positioning on the ice. For that reason we will likely be identifying which position each player will start the season playing. It's important for them to learn the position and it's responsibilities and will help them to have a lot more fun by preventing bunching around the puck. If a player dislikes a position they need to know they can talk to the coaches about it anytime and we will work on switching positions with another player on the team.

Ideally, it would be nice if each player had a chance this year to play both forward and defense. With regard to goalkeeping, please let either Dale or myself know if your son would like to try a game or two in net. I am told we will get a set of goalie equipment and it would be good for the keeper to have lots of experience in practice first. If any player has expressed an interest to be a goalie all the time please let me know.

FYI, I am told there will be an entry fee for games (with exception of coaches and players), probably in the $4-5 range.

Lastly, our goal this year is to have fun. We have the use of the full ice surface during practices and there will be a lot of skating and conditioning happening. The kids will likely be tired afterward. I would suggest that each player have a water bottle on the bench as hydration is vitally important with 7 and 8 year olds.

Please let any of us know if you have any concerns or suggestions. Looking forward to a great season!

Sincerely,

Errol Sturgeon 519-387-1554
