Team Defense Leads Charge in Season Opener
The Bayshore Skate Sharpening Peewee Jr. Attack skated to a 4-0 win in their Season Opener, and First WOAA Action on Saturday Oct. 22nd.

The Peewee Jr Attack came into this match-up welcoming a new player to the dressing room.  Tegan Thomas was welcomed into this club with confidence and determination, which was reflected on the ice by each member in this match-up.

Looking to get their feet wet in their first action, the Peewee's really focused on overall team defense.

The first period saw both Bruce Peninsula and Owen Sound taking some time to feel out their opponents.
Both teams focused on eliminating chances and clogged up the neutral zone, but without doubt still in search of that important first goal

It wasn't until part way through the first period when it would come.  Ethan Cunningham was able to find the back of the net on an unassisted effort.
This not only gave the Peewee's something to cheer about, but also the confidence that the work that they have put in could pay off.

Owen Sound goaltender Scott Lumley was called on to make some timely saves in his first Shut Out of the season.
Our Solid Defensive pairings were able to make his job much easier by controlling the lose pucks in the Owen Sound end.

Owen Sound was able to pick up the pace in the second period as our skilled forwards began to use the ice and find each other in open lanes to move the puck forward.

With more room to skate and with the support of the solid back end, Geoffery Webster and Lukas Mothersell were able to work the puck lose deep in the Northstars end.  A timely pass from Webster left Mothersell open for the shot.  The Northstars goalie made a great effort, but the puck slipped past for Mothersell's first of the season.

Down 2-0, the Bruce Peninsula Northstars never gave up.  They would need a big third period to set things straight.

But on this day, it was not to be.
Midway through the third, on one of several line rushes, Logan Black found Tyler Morris in the slot.  Morris was able to make a couple quick moves to find the open lane, to put Owen Sound up 3-0.

The third period would see many opportunities for our solid skating Defense.  Owen Sounds suffocating back check would allow for several opportunities for timely end to end rushes.

Late in the third Bennett Lines who had graciously stepped in on the back end for the game; took an opportunity to lug the puck up the ice; beating the waiting defense man, to put the puck just high of the Northstars Goalie's glove, and would solidify the Owen Sound victory in this opening bout.

The Owen Sound squad really showed hustle with a constant fore-check that continued throughout the game, but it was the full teams effort in our own end that was the story of the day.
Eliminating the chances is what brought home the win in this game.

The Owen Sound Jr Attack Bayshore Skate Sharpening Peewee club is next in action on November 6th at 1:30PM, where they get their first look at the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs at the Tara Community Centre.
