Novice A - finish the season in 1st Place
The Canadian Tire Owen Sound Jr. Attack Novice ‘A’ came into their last weekend of the regular season with a particular goal in mind: to claim first place in their league.

The Jr. Attack sat three points behind league-leading Midland with two games to play. Owen Sound had to tangle with a tough Collingwood team Friday night and then as fate would have it were up against Midland on Saturday. This was Midland’s only remaining game. If the Jr. Attack could win both games first place was theirs. One of the advantages Owen Sound had was that both games would be played at the JD McArthur Arena inside the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community.

Right from the start of the Collingwood game you could tell the Jr. Attack were ready for the challenge. Owen Sound jumped out to a quick lead and ended up skating off with a 6-0 win. The players went to bed knowing that they had a chance on Saturday to get first place.

Midland lead the league standings right from day one when they beat Owen Sound 5-4 to start the season. Owen Sound bounced back in November and beat the Midland Centennials 4-2. To add intrigue to the battle for first this game would also serve as the rubber match in the three game series. Head Coach Kris Seaman got the players fired up in the dressing room before the game and the players charged onto the ice. The Jr. Attack jumped out to 1-0 lead and spirits were high. One thing was for sure: Midland was not going to quit. In fact, The Centennials fought very hard and stormed to a 3-1 lead by the end of the second period. Despite being down and facing a hard-charging opponent the Jr. Attack players remained calm and focused. The talk on the bench was all positive and the players kept working. Owen Sound earned some power plays but also had to kill off two penalties. The Owen Sound Canadian Tire Novice ‘A’ Jr. Attack fought all the way back and earned a stunning 4-3 victory to steal first place in the Georgian Bay League from the hands of the Midland Centennials.

Congratulations to the 17 players on such a great season! This team does not have much time to celebrate as they start OMHA Play Downs on Sunday January 8, 2017 in New Hamburg. Good Luck in the playoffs team.
