Atom Selects End Season at Semis in Barrie Tournament
The Owen Sound Atom Selects finished the season in fine fashion, with a performance that showcased the strength and skills of all players. It was definitely a weekend to remember!

Friday morning’s match against the Quinte West Hawks was a tight affair, but thanks to some superb goaltending and star defense, especially from Connor McManaman, the Attack won the game 3-2.

Game MVP: Jamie Nicoll

Later in the day, Owen Sound faced the Peterborough Petes. Jaiden Whitlock nailed the first goal of the game, 9 seconds in, but the Petes were tough and pulled off a 5-3 win over our side.

After a night’s rest, the boys came back very early Saturday morning to face the Oshawa Hawks. The game seesawed back and forth, and Brodie Aberdein turned in a hat trick, but at the end of three, Owen Sound settled for a 5-5 tie.

Owen Sound faced Port Perry in the afternoon match, and took it to them, skating off with a 9 – 1 win, thanks to Ethan Kerr’s hat trick and two goals each from Brodie and Jaiden.

With a 2-1-1 record, the Attack moved into the semi-finals to face first place Barrie on Sunday morning. What an exciting game it was! The play was fast and furious throughout the game, and the final result could have gone either way. Barrie jumped out to a two goal lead in the first period, and although the Attack found new energy when Lucas Merner potted one for Owen Sound, the clock ran out before Owen Sound could tie it up.

What a terrific weekend of hockey, where the boys all had a chance to show their skill and celebrate an outstanding season! Since the Orono tournament at New Year’s, the team has gone 7-4-2, scoring an incredible 60 goals and allowing only 32 over that run. Special awards were handed out at the team party on Friday, to honour special contributions from some key players:

Most Dedicated: Ethan Kerr
Most Improved: Cole Brown
Most Sportsman: Connor McManaman
