League-leading Storm too much for depleted Tykes
Derick Clermont scored twice and added an assist and goaltender Brody Verbeek turned aside every shot he faced to lead the Dundalk Novice Storm to a 4-0 home win over the Owen Sound Jr. Attack Canadian Tire Tykes on Monday.

The Tykes, who have yet to ice a full lineup this season, fell to 7-6-2 in Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League play while Dundalk remains atop of the standings with an imposing 11-1 record.

Despite travelling without forwards Curtis Duggan and Bryce Martin and defenceman Cooper Schneider, goaltender Noah Lundgren and the Tykes were able to hold the high-scoring Storm – who had filled the net 80 times in their previous 11 league games - scoreless until the midway point of the second period.

Dundalk would score twice in a span of 2:35 to hold a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.

“I thought Dundalk did a good job of doing to us what we try to do to other teams - they took our time and space away,” said Tykes head coach Rob Martin. “The kids played well defensively, but unfortunately when we did make a mistake they were able to capitalize on it.”

Dundalk extended its lead to 3-0 at the 10:35 mark of the third period, before rounding out the scoring with eight seconds to play.

The Tykes, who played a penalty-free game, were held scoreless on their lone power play opportunity.

“The coaching staff was impressed with how the kids battled right to the end,” said Martin.

Owen Sound travels to Brampton this weekend (Dec. 7-9) to participate in the 21st annual Bob Giroux Memorial Tournament. The Tykes will face the Buffalo Regals, Guelph Storm and Burlington Eagles in round-robin play.
