Firefighter's in the Championship Game during the SSE London Wild Tournament
What a weekend for the Minor Bantam Crew. They played some great hockey against some very good London Teams, and a Pickering team, held their own, and were 1 period away from winning it all. They went 3-1-1 on the Weekend.

Game 1 saw the boys take on the strong London Bandits. We were down 2-0 until late in the 2nd period when Tanner Prior took a great pass from Matthew Lyall went in alone and buried it. The boys got pumped up and took it and scored 2 more in the 3rd on their way to a 3-2 win. Noah Solinger and Scooter Dodd each scored once. Reese Pettigrew wasn’t busy in the 1st 2 frames only facing 11 shots, but came up big in the final frame stopping 11 more to preserve the win.

Game 2 saw the Firemen take on the Pickering Panthers, and were by far the better team in this one winning it 6-3. Lots of penalties lots of goal and lots of shots for the Owen Sounders. 6 different goal scorers in this one. Scooter Dodd, Damien Sutton, Brady Brown, Tanner Prior, Andrew Lavergne and Matt Lyall all tallied. Mac Kuglin didn’t see a lot of rubber on the day but was solid and picked up the 2nd win for his team on the weekend stopping 5 of 8 he faced.

Game 3 was played against another good London Nationals team and ended 3-3 but was enough to put the boys in 1st place in Division 2. Scoring were Brady Brown, Kurt Long and Noah Solinger. Reese Pettigrew stopped 9 of 12 he faced.

Game 4 was a Semi Final game against the same London Nationals team they tied the night before. This was a great game going end to end and after 35 minutes of play this game was also tied, however it went into a 5 minute Sudden Victory showdown. The 1st minute started out 4 on 4, and then it went to 3 on 3 with nothing solved. Damien Sutton and Scooter Dodd came on the ice for a 2 on 2 showdown with 2 of London’s best and we got the puck into the London end with Damien Sutton digging it out the corner and popped it home for an exciting win. Scooter Dodd and Kurt Long added the other markers. Mac ‘Kugmeister’ Kuglin didn’t see a lot of rubber during the 1st 3 frames, but did see 3 great scoring chances during the Sudden Victory OT period and came up huge, stopping em all to preserve the win for the boys and send them off to the Championship against the London Bandits.

The Championship game saw the Firefighter's get out of the gate quick and held a 2-0 lead into the 3rd frame. The boys held the Bandits to only 7 shots in the periods 1 and 2.  Unfortunately, the gas tank seemed to be running on fumes in the 3rd for the Firefighter's and the Bandits were able to get 11 more shots on netminder Reese Pettigrew and put home 3 unanswered goals in the final frame to take home the Championship. Kurt Long and Luc Chiasson both scored in the loss. Reese Pettigrew took the loss stopping 15 of 18 he faced..

All in all the Bench Staff and Parents should be very proud of the boys and the effort this past weekend. Anytime you get to a Championship game you have done something right and although it is always a better feeling to leave a Champion, leaving a Runner Up is still quite an achievement and the boys should hold their heads high after a successful weekend of hockey.  Great Job Boys!!!!
