Major Peewees go One, One and One at Parry Sound Weekend Tournament
The Owen Sound Major Peewees opened the Tournament vs Blind River on Friday night with a first shift goal by Curtis Long.  Owen Sound kept Blind River penned in generating scoring chance after scoring chance for the first few minutes.  Blind River then pushed back using their speed keeping Owen Sound on their heels, drawing penalties and scoring 4 straight times.  Owen Sound replied late in the 3rd period with goals from Tyson Wilkins and Andrew Laverne.  With 15 seconds to go Mathew Lyall took a nice pass from behind the net from Brady Brown but was robbed of the tying goal by the blind River goalie’s glove. Ryan Winters was in goal.

Game two vs Leeside on Saturday morning saw two evenly matched teams trade goals while playing to a 2 all draw.  Owen Sound was really hoping for a win after the opening loss.  Both Reese Pettigrew and the Leeside  goalie played well however just like in game 1 the opposing goalie managed to rob our players of certain goals with trappers open in the right place at the right time. Goals for Owen Sound came from Curt Long and Jordan Lawrence.

The 3rd game was played at the Bobby Orr Community Centre when the boys were hoping for a little inspiration from number 4.  Once again two evenly matched teams battled hard for every inch of ice with Mathew Lyall scoring to tie the game at one in the third period.  Late in the game St. Catharines opted to pull their goalie as a tie would not be enough to earn another game on Sunday.  Kurtis Long scored his third goal in three games when his bad angle shot pin-balled in off the St. Catharines D to secure the win and a mathematical chance to play on Sunday.  Ryan Winters back stopped the win allowing only 1 goal on 31 shots and many solid scoring chances.

The bad news came as the team enjoyed a tough game of mini-sticks in the hotel hallway.  We lost the third round tie breaker ending all hopes of a semifinal game on Sunday.  Back to league games until the Christmas classic in Niagara on the Lake!
