Novice AEs battle in Barrie
The Owen Sound QuikLube Junior Attack novice AEs competed in the Barrie Canadian Tire Classic Tournament on the weekend.

The Junior Attack improved as the weekend went on, going 0-2-1 in pool play.
Owen Sound opened the tournament against the Orangeville Flyers on Friday morning. Owen Sound came out strong and skated with Orangeville for the first two periods. Goalie Landon Sanford kept Owen Sound close with several big saves. The Junior Attack were trailing 2-1 in the third period, but Orangeville scored a few quick goals and eventually went on to down Owen Sound 7-1. Curtis Arnold scored Owen Sound's lone goal on a breakway.
In their second game Friday afternoon, the Junior Attack faced the Waterloo Mountain Wolves. Owen Sound played a good game, but could muster very little offence and fell 3-0. Landon Sanford once again had a strong game in the Owen Sound goal.
In the third game, Owen Sound faced the Oshawa Junior Generals on Saturday morning. After some back-and-forth hockey, Oshawa jumped out to a 2-0 lead, despite Owen Sound getting several chances of their own.
Curtis Arnold cut the Junior Generals lead in half when he fired the puck home on a nice pass from the side of the net by Cole Gowan. Owen Sound kept pressing, but the Oshawa goalie made several saves to keep his team ahead. Landon Sanford also came through with some big saves, including a breakaway stop late in the third.
Cole Gowan finally tied the game at 2-2 with about two minutes to play when he chipped the puck past an Oshawa defenceman, skated in on a breakaway and shot the puck high into the back of the net.
Owen Sound buzzed the Oshawa goal late in the game with several good scoring chances, but the buzzer sounded and the boys skated away with a well-earned 2-2 tie.Owen Sound is back in action in Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League play on Wednesday, Nov. 30 when they travel to Meaford to take on Georgian Shores at 7 p.m.
