Owen Sound Minor Hockey is classified as an “A” centre and offers programming to Owen Sound residents in both recreational & competitive streams. While the above programming is our primary focus, we will give consideration on an annual basis to alternative offerings based on registration.



Junior Development (U5-U8)

U5 Preschool Program (Timbits)

  • Beginner program introduces your child to the hockey FUNdamentals in a positive and engaging environment.
  • Ice Time -> Oct-Mar (1 x 50 min. session per week)
  • If your child cannot stand on their own, we encourage parents to be on the ice to assist the coaches
  • Max on-ice roster size 36 players
  • Full equipment required; Jersey & Socks provided

U6-U8 Initiation Program (Timbits)

  • Continued focus on FUNdamentals with emphasis on developing individual skills such as skating, puck control, shooting/passing, basic positioning
  • Ice Time -> Oct-Mar ( 2 x 50 min. sessions per week)
  • Practice drills and modified games will be played using cross-ice & half-ice format

  • Max on-ice roster size 36; U8 will have 2 separate teams with max roster size of 18 players
  • Full equipment required; Jersey & Socks provided

 

Learn To Play/Modified Programming (U9-above)

  • Designed to provide a positive and memorable experience for "new-to-hockey" families and offer kids with special needs a long-term platform to have a program of their own
  • Ice Time -> Oct-Mar (1 x 50 min. session per week)
  • Max on-ice roster size 20 players
  • Small area skills/drills based on age and ability
  • Individual support worker required to be on ice at all times (where applicable)
  • Full equipment required; Jersey & Socks provided

Local League (U9-U18)

U9 Program

  • Ice Time -> Oct-Mar ( 2 x 50 min sessions per week)
  • Half-ice exhibition league Oct-Dec
  • Transition to full-ice league in January
  • Local travelling within WOAA communities (Saugeen Shores, Shallow Lake, Chatsworth, Bruce Peninsula, etc)
  • NEW!! Additional Rep-Prep on-ice sessions available (registration for these sessions will occur once season starts)

U11-U18 Program

  • Ice Time -> Oct-Mar (1-2 x 50 min sessions per week)
  • Our teams participate in WOAA league with local travelling involved for regular season & playoff games (Saugeen Shores, Shallow Lake, Chatsworth, Bruce Peninsula, etc)
  • No body contact permitted

Representative (U10-U18)

  • Ice Time -> Oct-Mar (2 x 50 min sessions per week, including weekday morning practice)
  • Our rep programs participate in Tri-County & Georgian Bay loops
  • NRP permitted in U13 & above programs
  • Body Checking permitted in U14 and above
  • U10-U16 tryouts commence in the spring / U18 tryouts commence in the fall
