Another Busy (and Successful) Weekend for Major Atoms

In this case the weekend of hockey for the Owen Sound Jr. Attack Leeder & Associates Major Atoms started on Thursday night with a trip to Collingwood to face the Blackhawks.  This proved to be a tense game where the fans only needed the edge of their seats.  The Jr. Attack scored in the first period to go up 1-0 and would take that lead into the intermission.

In the 2nd period the Jr. Attack put the pressure on in the Collingwood end totally dominating puck possession.
This pressure did not end up in another goal however and entering the 3rd period it was still 1-0 Jr. Attack.  The third
period was more even with chances going back and forth but neither team could break through. The game ended in a 1-0 win for the Jr. Attack.

Before the game on Saturday the Leeder & Associates Jr. Attack were lucky to get a tour of the Owen Sound Fire Department base.  Each player brought an unwrapped gift to contribute to the fire fighters’ campaign of gift giving to less fortunate families in our region.  The joy of helping others was enhanced when just as the photo was snapped some snow fell down inside the coat of Coach Ken Williams.  Everyone found that somewhat humorous, as the picture proves. Saturday saw the Elmvale Coyotes come to town for the first game in a weekend home and home series.  Early in the 1st period the Jr. Attack got the lead and never looked back, skating to a solid victory.  This game was made extra special because the Major Atoms had a guest coach.  Jesse Walker was on hand to motivate the team.  Most of you will know that Jesse is battling Cancer and is a member of the Jr. Attack Major Bantam team.  It was a great example of the connections that exist between the different age groups in the Jr. Attack family.
For the second half of the home and home series we travelled to Elmvale on Sunday.  Despite running into penalty trouble and a motivated Elmvale Coyotes team, the Jr. Attack were able skate away with a 4-0 victory to complete the weekend sweep of the three games.

This team continues to work hard as they play through the second half of their regular season.  After a busy weekend they showed up at practice Monday morning ready to learn and practice supporting their collective desire to continually get better.

If you want to see this team play you have two games to choose from this weekend.  The Penetang Flames roll into Owen Sound for games on both Saturday and Sunday.  Both games are 2:30pm and both games are at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.  Come cheer them on!
