Krueger Custom Steel PeeWee AE Takes Silver in Winter Challenge
Congratulations to the Owen Sound Jr Attack PeeWee AE Team for an awesome weekend of Hockey at the Greater Fort Erie Winter Challenge!
The Krueger Custom Steel PeeWee AE Team came away from Fort Erie this weekend with a strong second place finish.
The Winter Challenge opened up on Friday evening for the Attack where they would face a very solid West Niagara team, who coming off a very strong season had only suffered 2 losses to date. It was known that it was going to take a very solid team effort to start this tournament off with a win.
The PeeWee AE Team did just that. With undoubtedly one of the teams strongest efforts this season; the PeeWee AE's played a full team game, and smothered West Niagara and walked away with a very tight 1-0 win to start the tournament on the right side.
The confidence and pride this victory provided the team would help carry them through the remainder of the tournament. It was apparent to all in the room what could be accomplished with hard work, tenacity and team play.
Coming into Saturday, the Jr Attack were going to need to bring more. And more was brought!
Saturday morning saw the Attack dominate the Port Colborne Sailors 6 -3.
The PeeWee AE team not only witnessed what they were capable of, but also what could happen with a 5 minute lull in their play. It would not come easy.
Saturday evening proved to be another solid outing for the Jr Attack. With confidence and energy at a high, the PeeWee AE Attack would go on to stun the South Huron Sabres 7-0 to finish the round robin off undefeated.
Sunday morning would present the Jr Attack with their first elimination game against the Tillsonburg Tornadoes. Tillsonburg also had a very strong round robin, only suffering one loss, but followed that up with two convincing wins to meet Owen Sound in the Semi-Finals.
However, Owen Sound was not about to take their foot off the gas.
Within minutes, the PeeWee AE team showed that they meant business. They would jump out to an early and convincing lead, and would never look back. The Jr Attack showed relentless possession and would take a 6-0 lead, until only giving up a goal with seconds left on the clock on a broken play that ended with players, a goalie and unfortunately the puck in the net for a 6-1 final.
Regardless to say, this was enough to give the PeeWee's a chance for the Championship!
The final game would see Owen Sound again facing off against the West Niagara Team who would be looking for revenge.
Unfortunate for the Attack, West Niagara brought a little more battle to the ice that afternoon, and would go on to overwhelm the Attack 4-0. The Attack were persistent, but just couldn't seem to solve a very large and solid goaltender at the other end.
The PeeWee AE's wouldn't give up, but would skate away with their heads held high and a silver trophy to complete a very solid weekend of hockey.
