Harold Sutherland Jr Attack Peewee’s Win The Silver Stick Regional Championship
The Harold Sutherland Jr Attack Peewee’s won the International Silver Stick qualifying tournament this past weekend in Midland with an impressive 5 straight wins.
On Friday the Peewee’s started the tourney against the Innisfil Winterhawks in Penetang, the small rink made for a tight game. The Jr Attack played hard adjusted to the small rink and took the game with a 2-1 win. Later that evening the Jr Attack took to the ice in Midland against the Collingwood Blackhawks. The Blackhawks tested the Jr Attacks perseverance. The game was back and forth with the Collingwood Blackhawks taking the lead in the third period. With time winding down the Owen Sound Jr Peewee’s dug deep and wowed the crowd with three quick goals in just over a minute. This was huge; Collingwood couldn’t recover from the three goal burst and would fall 5-3 against the Peewee Jr Attack.
Saturday the team had a game scheduled late afternoon against the Orillia Terriers. A good rest and some team fun got them ready to skate over Orillia. Right from the first face off Owen Sound controlled the game and never let up! They beat Orillia 6-1 sealing them a spot in the Semi finals of the tournament.
Sunday was the big day, and these boys love Sunday hockey! The Jr Attack were up against the Woodstock Navy Jets for the Semi Final game. Both of the teams showed up to play and it was a fast paced, intense nerve racking game! The Jr Attack would score early in the first and battle hard to hold the lead until early in the third when Woodstock would find the back of the Jr Attack’s net. That didn’t phase the team and they kept playing hard. The third period ended and the score was still tied 1-1 sending the game into its first period of overtime. Quick shifts lots of passing and great goal tending created a lot of opportunities for the team but they couldn’t find the back of Woodstock’s net to end it. After the first period of overtime the teams were still dead locked! The Jr Attack took the ice for the second period of overtime looking as energetic as the first and fought hard, they battled, skated and it payed off! With time winding down they buried the puck in Woodstock’s net earning their spot in the Championship game against Georgina Blaze!
The double overtime didn’t phase the Jr Attack at all going into the Championship game. Again like the Orillia game the Owen Sound Jr Attack controlled the game right from the first face off against the Blaze; and only picked up momentum as the game went on. Georgina had a couple big opportunities to turn the game around but could not beat the Jr Attack goalies glove! The Harold Sutherland Jr Attack Peewee won the Championship with an outstanding 5-0 shutout victory over the Georgina Blaze! This is the teams third Tournament Championship this season!
This Championship win has earned the Harold Sutherland Jr Attack an invitation to the International Silver Stick Finals in Port Huron Michigan! Way to go team!!!
