National Hockey Helmet Survey
Submitted By OSMHG on Wed 02 23, 22
A local grade 10 student with an interest in brain injury prevention is asking for help with her science fair project on helmet safety.

Her project, the National Hockey Helmet Survey, has a goal of gathering data on the hockey helmets being used in Canadian sports and to foster awareness of the importance of maintaining helmets in good condition.

Design assistance for this project has been provided by Stephanie Cowle, Director of Knowledge Translation at Parachute Canada and Dr. Charles Tator, neurosurgeon, Project Director of the Canadian Concussion Centre and a member of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. Survey results will be shared with them.

Participating in this anonymous survey would have an additional benefit by having players check their helmet carefully for damage or missing pieces to ensure it is as safe as possible.

Here is a link to the website which includes the survey: https://nationalhelmetsurvey.com

If possible, players/parents are asked to fill it out the survey by February 28, 2022.

The data collected will be analyzed to understand the usage of hockey helmets in Canada and potentially provide recommendations that will make sports safer.
